Stop Longmeadow

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED - Public Comment Period Closes Jan. 9th!!!

Happy New Year!  Let’s stop Longmeadow Toll Bridge in 2016!  Please send an email to the IEPA and Army Corp of Engineers regarding the fact that the Longmeadow project is not in the public interest.  The deadline is JANUARY 9TH.  A sample letter is attached.

“…A LACK OF RESPONSE WILL BE INTERPRETED AS MEANING THAT THERE IS NO OBJECTION TO THE PROJECT AS DESCRIBED,”  from Page 7, Joint Public Notice for public comments, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.  If you object to the Longmeadow Toll Bridge project you must send a response—this is our last opportunity.

You must include the following line:  Regarding the Longmeadow Parkway, COE#2013-00839, IEPA log#C-0396-14 and your name and address.

Email your response to kimberly.j.kubiak@usace.army.mil and to Thaddeus.Faught@Illinois.gov

Kimberly is the Army Corp representative and Thaddeus is the IEPA representative.

NOTE: IDENTICAL LETTERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS ONE!

Tell the agencies why the project is not in the public interest.

The Corps’ public interest evaluation also must consider all factors that may be relevant, and the cumulative effects of those factors including

·         Environmental factors such as conservation, wetlands, fish and wildlife values, water quality, floodplain management, and environmental benefits.

·         Aesthetics, scenic and recreational values, general environmental concerns, and economics.

·         The relevant extent of the public and private need for the proposed work.

·         The practicability of using reasonable alternative locations and methods to accomplish the objective of the proposed work, where there is a conflict as to the resource use

·         The extent and permanence of the beneficial and/or detrimental effects the proposed work is likely to have on the public and private uses to which the area is suited.

CLEARLY IDENTIFY INFORMATION THAT IS WRONG OR MISSING. TELL THEM THE NO BUILD ALTERNATIVE MUST BE CONSIDERED AND ENOUGH TIME HAS PASSED THAT A NEW EIS SHOULD BE COMPLETED FOR THE PROJECT.

For instance, the Longmeadow project is contrary to the public interest due to its negative impacts to theBrunner Forest Preserve, Fox River Shores, and a Dundee Township park (Hickory Hills).  The project destroys the scenic and recreational values of the Fox River.  The project does not meet its Purpose and Need:  The project will actually impede traffic flows on Routes 25 and 31 and Randall Road and create traffic congestion.   Air, noise, and water pollution have not been adequately evaluated.

REQUEST A PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

There is significant public interest in the project as evidenced by an overwhelming number of residents attending the annual Dundee Township meeting in April, seeking an advisory referendum question on Longmeadow to be placed on the March election ballot.

There is significant public controversy over the project’s impact. Residents continue to attend local and county board meetings in opposition and the village of Barrington Hills now opposes the project.  Also, there are three candidates running for County Board against Joe Haimann, and all three are anti-Longmeadow!  If that isn't a testament to the people's feelings about Longmeadow, then what is?

2016 can be our year to win, thank you for joining this effort and helping to stop Longmeadow before it starts.
